What is the difference?

Both microblading and powder brows are permanent brow makeup techniques. What sets them apart is how the pigment is applied and the final effect.

Microblading is a manual technique. Using a special pen with needles, I draw individual fine hair strokes that mimic natural brows. After healing, the effect looks like real, full brows.

Powder brows (also called ombre brows or shaded brows) are done with a PMU machine. The pigment is applied in tiny dots, creating the effect of softly applied powder makeup — even colour, soft edges.

The final effect — how do they look after healing?

Microblading

  • A natural, crisp hair-stroke effect
  • Each “hair” visible up close
  • Perfectly fills in sparse brows
  • Looks like brows without makeup — even up close

Powder brows

  • Even, filled-in colour — like lightly shaded brows
  • A soft transition at the head, more defined colour at the tail
  • Looks like a soft everyday makeup
  • More defined, yet still natural

How long does the effect last?

Both methods last about the same — the effect usually holds for 1–2 years, longer for some people. How long depends not so much on the method as on your skin type (oily skin blurs pigment faster — with any method), sun exposure (UV protection is essential), and lifestyle (swimming, sauna, physical activity). I write more about this in the article how long microblading lasts.

Which method for which skin?

This is the key question — and where most mistakes are made when choosing.

I recommend microblading for:

  • Dry or normal skin — pigment holds long and precisely
  • People with sparse brows who want natural density
  • Those who dislike a “visible” makeup look
  • Skin without enlarged pores around the brows

I recommend powder brows for:

  • Oily or combination skin — the result looks more aesthetic over time
  • Those who want a more defined, stronger effect
  • Those who like a more defined effect
  • Skin with enlarged pores or a tendency toward oiliness

There is also a combined method — microblading at the head with soft powder at the tail. A great option for those who want a natural effect with better longevity. See the details of the combined method.

Price — microblading vs powder brows

In my studio, prices are as follows:

  • Microblading (hair-stroke brows): 700 zł
  • Combined method: 900 zł
  • Powder brows: 700 zł

The price includes a consultation (free, before you decide) and an aftercare kit. A touch-up after 4–6 weeks costs 200 zł.

You’ll find the full price list on the pricing page.

How to choose a method — my consultation protocol

At the consultation I look at several things: skin type, oiliness, skin thickness around the brows, your current brow shape and how you want to look day to day. Only then do I suggest a method.

Sometimes a client comes in thinking about microblading, but after examining the skin I suggest powder brows — and vice versa. A good decision takes time and a careful look at the skin, not just aesthetic preferences.

The consultation is free and with no obligation. If we can’t find a good solution, I’ll tell you honestly.

Frequently asked questions

Which method is better — microblading or powder brows?

There is no single better method — the choice depends on your skin type, lifestyle and the look you want. Microblading gives a natural hair-stroke effect, powder brows give a soft makeup effect. On oily skin the powder result usually looks more aesthetic over time.

How long does microblading last versus powder brows?

Both methods last about the same — usually 1–2 years, longer for some people. What decides it isn't the method, but your skin type, lifestyle and sun protection (UV filters).

Can I switch methods at my next appointment?

Yes. If you had microblading and want to switch to powder brows, it's possible once the old pigment has fully faded or with an appropriate refresh. We'll discuss it at the consultation.

Who is the combined method for?

The combined method (microblading + powder) is for those who want a natural hair-stroke look but with a more even, richer colour. Great for normal and slightly oily skin.
