How long does microblading last in practice?

Microblading lasts 1–2 years on average. Powder brows last about the same — the final longevity depends not on the method itself, but on your skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle.

It’s not a tattoo that stays forever — and that’s the point. PMU pigment is designed to fade gradually, so you can refresh the shape and colour in line with current trends and your changing features.

What determines longevity?

Skin type

This is the number one factor. Dry and normal skin holds pigment the longest. Oily skin produces more sebum, which blurs pigment faster — so on such skin any permanent makeup (microblading and powder alike) fades faster and needs more frequent refreshing. Which treatment for which skin — I cover this in the article microblading or powder brows.

Sun and UV

UV radiation is the biggest enemy of pigment longevity. Frequent tanning and solariums can speed up fading by several months. SPF cream on the brows is the simplest way to extend the effect.

Aftercare and cosmetics

Acids (AHA, BHA), retinol and peels used around the brows lighten the pigment. If you use such products on your face, avoid the brow area.

Metabolism and lifestyle

A fast metabolism, intense exercise, sweating and saunas speed up the body’s removal of the pigment. These are individual factors over which you have limited control.

The first year — what to expect

  • After the treatment and touch-up — the colour is most intense, the shape full
  • 3–6 months — the colour softens slightly, looks most natural
  • 6–12 months — gradual fading, the outline still clear
  • 12–18 months — time to think about a refresh

A refresh — cheaper than a new treatment

Once the colour has clearly faded, a refresh is done — building up the existing pigment. It’s cheaper than a full treatment because we don’t start from scratch. It’s usually recommended every 12–18 months. You’ll find current refresh prices in the price list.

If you skip the refresh, nothing bad happens. The pigment simply fades gradually and completely, without unsightly patches (with a well-chosen pigment).

Frequently asked questions

How long does microblading last?

Microblading usually lasts 1–2 years; powder makeup lasts about the same. Longevity depends on skin type, sun exposure, aftercare and lifestyle — not on the method itself.

Does permanent makeup last less on oily skin?

Yes, but this applies to any method. Oily skin produces more sebum, which blurs the pigment faster — both with microblading and with powder brows. It's a matter of skin type, not the specific technique.

When is a refresh needed?

A refresh is usually recommended every 12–18 months, once the colour has clearly faded. It's cheaper than a full treatment because the pigment is built up rather than applied from scratch.

Will microblading disappear completely if I don't refresh it?

Yes. With a well-chosen pigment the effect fades gradually and completely, without unsightly discolouration. Microblading is semi-permanent — it doesn't stay forever like a tattoo.
